Zhou Zhiyuan
Zhou Zhiyuan was born in 1976 in Hunan, China, and currently lives and works in Shenzhen. Having spent 19 years working in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Shenzhen People’s Hospital, Zhou’s artistic practice has long revolved around the theme of life.
Observing life from a uniquely intimate perspective, he focuses on its subtle and often overlooked dimensions. Through the use of diverse media and digital imaging, Zhou transforms the sensorial experience of life into rational records and moments of poetic discovery. His work challenges the conventional boundaries between life and death, prompting viewers to reconsider their own perceptions and attitudes toward existence.
In 2022, his work Spore (formerly titled Starfield) was exhibited in the 5th Asian Art Biennale organized by the Fukuoka Asian Art Museum in Japan, where it received the highest honor, the Gold Award.
